How to show different communication channels based on the time of the day

In this guide we’ll show you how to show different communication channels based on the time of the day using multiple Chaty widgets. For example, this is helpful if want your website visitors to contact you by phone during business hours and via Facebook Messenger after business hours. Of course you can choose any communication channels, based on your preferences and on your visitors’ browsing habits.

To learn more about how to use the Chaty plug-in click here, and don’t forget to check our entire Chaty knowledgebase to make the most out of it.

Important!: please note you need to be a Pro user to use this feature.

Start by creating a new widget from your WordPress dashboard and giving it a name. It will be named My-Chaty-Widget-# by default. You will be asked whether you want to load settings from your currently existing widget(s), if any, or choose to start from scratch. If you choose to start from zero, you will need to configure and personalise your widget. You can read in more detail how to set up and fully customize your Chaty widget in this guide: https://premio.io/help/chaty/how-to-use-chaty/

Then, head over to the ”Triggers and targeting” menu at the bottom of the settings page. The targeting option you need in order to display different channels in different times of the day is the so-called ”days and hours” targeting.

Click on ”Add rule” and then select to display the widget only in the days and hours you want. For example, if you want to be contacted by phone from 9 AM to 5 PM on weekdays, choose ”Monday to Friday” and in the ”from” and ”to” fields respectively, add 9 and 5. Don’t forget to choose your timezone correctly from the ”GMT” option! If you don’t know your exact local timezone to GMT rate, you can check it out here: https://greenwichmeantime.com

Please note you can add a separate rule for each day of the week or choose from our ready custom options – ”Everyday of week”, ”Sunday to Thursday”, ”Monday to Friday” or ”Weekend”.

Now, following the same steps from above, create a new widget with the other channel you wish to display after business hours, for example Facebook Messenger, and customize it. In the ”days and hours” targeting, click on ”Add rule” and then select to display the widget, for example, ”Every week day” from 5 PM to 9 AM. Again, don’t forget to choose your timezone correctly from the ”GMT” option! If you don’t know your exact local timezone to GMT rate, you can check it out here: https://greenwichmeantime.com

When you are done, don’t forget to save your progress with the ”Save widget” button. That’s it, easy and clear!
